How long does domain propagation normally take?

What's the shortest amount of time that it takes and is this something that the registrar or host can control to speed it up or slow it down?

  1. It can take up to 72 hours normally. And, yes, the company that you purchase your domain from has a lot to do with the amount of time that it takes for your domain to propagate. But, this is only indirectly. For instance, if the company normally takes 24 hours to approve purchases, then obviously, you'll have to wait at least 24 hours for your domain to work, because before that time, they haven't purchased the domain for you.
