Cleaning a keyboard in a dishwasher

Is it really safe to clean a keyboard in a dishwasher? I need proof that it is.

  1. This has been done before. I wouldn't recommend it. Why not just spend the extra TEN dollars on a new keyboard if you're going to such extremes? The worst that could happen is that it will shock you or mess up your computer, but do you want to take that chance when you could just spend the measly ten dollars?

  2. Technically, yes, as long as your dishwasher isn't powerful enough to blow holes in it. The danger is really just in making absolutely sure it's dry before using it.

I could spend the ten dollars, but I'm up about $50 so far cleaning the thing instead of getting a new one. I take them apart and wash them out completely and reassemble them. Only time I had trouble was when the keyboard was needed now (hurry! hurry! it looks fine!!!). And I just got screwy responses from it because it sent the wrong keys. No biggie.
